So, one of the really cool things the Army does (and many people might pass it up or not be aware of it) is sponsor marriage retreats. All we had to do was sign up for it and make sure the kids were current with CYS. Friday morning we drove down to Waikiki and checked into the Hale Koa Hotel, dropped the kids off in the activity area, and got to spend a day together. We were given buffet style-brunch (with make your own waffles!) and then had a class about strengthening your relationship with one another and communicating more efficiently. Yes, it was sponsored by the chaplain so it was religious based (loosely) but there was a lot of great information. He had all the guys stand up and tell the story of how they met their now-wives 🙂
Afterward we were released for a few hours to do whatever- so of course we enjoyed a Mai-Tai and walked around downtown Honolulu. I got a super sweet dress and we found a few really cool little spots to chill. The weather was amazing. Afterward we picked up the kids and had a formal 3 course dinner, which was fantastic. Salad, coffee, bread with butter, a billion different forks, lit candles (yes, with children at the table, lol), the main course was a honey-orange glazed chicken breast, green beans, brown rice, and crab-topped Mahi Mahi, followed by the fanciest strawberry shortcake I’ve ever experienced.
Of course, the area was gorgeous. I really do love it here- no matter where you go there is something beautiful and the climate/landscape varies so much from one side of the island to the other.
A great way to spend a Friday!
